Flint Residents Still Don’t Trust Snyder or the Water

More needs to be done to ensure Flint residents feel safe with water, trust their representatives

FLINT — Governor. Rick Snyder parroted a federal announcement that filtered Flint water is safe to drink. However, residents remain concerned about the water quality after years of denial and misinformation from the Snyder administration. Many residents continue to live off of bottled water.

“This is, once again, another irresponsible announcement by the Snyder administration and federal elected officials. There are no guarantees that every home has safe water or that their filters are functioning properly,” said Melissa Mays with Flint Rising and Water You Fighting For.

“Snyder gets behind any statement that downplays the disaster he created in Flint and today is no exception. Even the home where Gov. Snyder filled his water jugs for his failed 30-day water challenge has been found to have elevated levels of chlorine.

This latest announcement reminds me of April 2014 through October 2015 — for over a year — when the Snyder administration and state officials encouraged us to drink water that was in no way safe for anyone. The service lines are still in the ground and the recoating hasn’t worked as planned. I’m not willing to put my family through that game again. There is no trust with this administration, especially when they have yet to replace a single pipe.”
