Scott Meats raises $11,750 for Muskegon Maritime Academy

Muskegon Heights– This past Saturday January 21, Scott Meats owner Craig Hindes and family held a fundraiser for the Muskegon Maritime Academy(MMA). The community could buy a $100 gift card for only $75 with $25 going to support the school.

The community responded overwhelmingly from Manistee, Muskegon, Grand Haven and all surrounding areas. The store far exceeded its goal to support the new school. Scott Meats issued a statement on Saturday “Thank You Muskegon and surrounding areas for supporting our uniform drive for the K-5 kids at Muskegon Maritime Academy, it was more successful than could have been imagined”.

Muskegon Maritime Academy founder Franklin A. Fudail said he is beyond thankful and appreciative to the community and especially Scott Meats. “I appreciate the community for coming out and supporting this effort. I am especially appreciative of Craig Hindes and the Hindes family. They discounted their gift cards and made this a win-win for the community and the school. They basically took a loss, so that our school and the community could have a win”.

Fudail said store owner Craig Hindes ties to the school go back to the origins when it was just an afterschool reading and math tutoring program located in Muskegon Heights. “Very few people know the humble origins of this vision better than Craig Hindes. He was supporting the foundation of this school a decade ago when very few people knew we existed. He is responsible for helping a lot of kids grow academically and morally. He has been on the battlefield with me doing the tough beginnings and he is still standing strong with us. I am thankful”, said Fudail.

I am as well eternally greatful to Craig and Scott Meats for the graciousness and opportunities offered to me as a young kid growing up jn Muskegon Heights. K.J. Scott’s as it was known back in 1980 was my first real job. John and Craig taught me work ethics that helped me become successful in my college career and professional career. I attended WMU and majored in Food Marketing because of the knowledge and experience learned at Scott’s Meats.

As a young college student, I was allowed to work at Scott’s meats and earn extra cash, whenever I came home for holidays, breaks weekends.

Now as the Mayor of Muskegon Heights, and 42 years later, I am eternally grateful for the longevity, dedication and the commitment that Scott’s Meats has provided to the community of Muskegon Heights, with jobs and opportunities for anyone wanting to work, as well as providing high quality, full service meat at a reasonable price.

THANK YOU SCOTT MEATS FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE CITIZENS AND CITY OF MUSKEGON HEIGHTS!

    Mayor Walter Watt

A seed was planted in the community and see how it grew and bloomed! Congratulations to the community. I hope this opens the door to more financial support for this mission.

Thank you so much, Barbara. We are trying, and like any new venture we are having our bumps along the way. This seed back Scott Meats is a great blessing for us.
