James, Benson set to debate. How to watch Michigan gubernatorial debate

The Republican and Democratic candidates to become Michigan governor will take the stage Tuesday night, Oct. 6, to debate with just a month left before Election Day.

Ahead of the midterm election on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, a Democrat, and U.S. House Rep. John James, a Republican, will debate from the studios of WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, according to the media group Nexstar.

From 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6., James and Benson will debate for the first time. Current Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a Democrat, is term limited and is not running for reelection.

The debate will be moderated by WOOD-TV political reporter Rick Albin and anchor Amber Krycka will facilitate questions from viewers, according to Nexstar.

The next major debate will air Thursday night, Oct. 8, and feature Democrat Abdul El-Sayed and former congressman Republican Mike Rogers who are seeking to become Michigan’s next U.S. senator. Democratic Sen. Gary Peters is retiring, leaving an open seat.

Michigan’s gubernatorial debate streams live from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

The debates will be carried live on Nexstar’s two television stations serving Michigan: WOOD TV (Grand Rapids) and WLNS (Lansing).

You many also tune in on CBS Detroit (Detroit), WJRT (Flint), WWTV/ WWUP/ WFUP (Traverse City), WBUP (Marquette), and WBKB (Alpena).
