Michigan State hockey is set to officially open the 2026-27 season on Friday night.

The Spartans will welcome in-state rival Northern Michigan to Munn Ice Arena for a two-game weekend series, starting with the season-opener on Friday night. The second leg of the two-game weekend series will come on Sunday afternoon.

Michigan State comes into this season with high expectations. The Spartans are ranked No. 3 in the preseason USCHO.com poll, and looking to make it a fourth straight season reaching the NCAA Tournament.

Northern Michigan, on the other hand, enters this year with relatively low expectations. The Wildcats were picked to finish last in the eight team Central Collegiate Hockey Association preseason poll.
