Democrat Garlin Gilchrist and Republican Anthony Forlini will take the stage Thursday night, Oct. 8, for an hour-long debate at the University of Michigan’s campus as each seeks to become Michigan’s next Secretary of State.
As part of a debate-packed week in Michigan ahead of the midterm election on Nov. 3, the candidates for Secretary of State — who will replace Jocelyn Benson, who is the Democratic candidate for Michigan governor ― will debate from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The event will be streamed live from the University of Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy in Ann Arbor in the Annenberg Auditorium at Weill Hall.
The debate will be streamed live via U-M’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy Facebook account.
Debate moderators will be correspondent Jordyn Hermani and Gongwer President Zach Gorchow, according to the University’s Facebook announcement.
During the debate, student representatives from U-M’s Michigan College Democrats and Michigan College Republicans will ask questions.
The debate will end around the time the U.S. Senate debate featuring Democrat Abduel El-Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers begins Thursday night, Oct. 8.
