What GM’s top selling and bottom selling Q3 vehicles tell us

General Motors sales declined 5.5% in the United States in the third quarter from a smaller electric vehicle market and the loss of several vehicle models the automaker cut in the past year.

The Detroit automaker reported Oct. 1 that it sold 670,974 vehicles in the quarter.

Some popular vehicles though, saw gains.

Here are the top selling, and bottom selling, models by volume in the quarter:

Chevrolet Silverado – 100,221

Sales of the automaker’s most popular and profitable pickup rose 13.3% to 100,221 vehicles compared to 88,460 trucks last year at this time.

So far in 2026, GM has sold 279,614 light-duty Silverado trucks, a 6.5% increase from January through September of 2025.

Increasing sales of the current generation pickup so close to a model changeover is significant, GM spokesman David Caldwell pointed out in an email to the Detroit Free Press, given how soon the updated 2027 Chevrolet Silverado is slated to reach dealerships in the coming weeks.

However, sales of other versions of the truck didn’t fare as well in the quarter.

Heavy-duty Silverado sales fell 10% to 44,278 vehicles. Electric Silverado sales of 1,655 marked a 58% drop from 3,940 pickups sold in third-quarter 2025.

Chevrolet Equinox – 67,203

The next-highest in sales volume goes to the Chevrolet Equinox, of which GM sold 67,203 in third quarter 2026, a drop of 8.8% from third quarter 2025. So far this year, GM has sold 191,578 Equinoxes, a decline of about 7% when compared to the first nine months of 2025.

Sales of the Equinox electric vehicle variant cratered in the same quarter to 1,905 vehicles sold compared with 25,085 sold in third quarter 2025.

That 92.4% nosedive due in part to the comparison against the last quarter the federal tax incentive was available for electric vehicles.

Chevrolet Trax – 57,917

Chevrolet Trax vehicles saw sales of 57,917, a 16.3% increase year over year. One of the most affordable vehicles that GM offers with a starting price below $25,000, it also is among the automaker’s most popular.

Still, Trax sales trail behind 2025’s volume, with sales of 167,910 in the first nine months of 2026 a slight dip of 0.9% from that period in 2025.

Meanwhile, discontinued models and battery electric models made up most of GM’s bottom selling vehicles in the quarter by volume.

Cadillac XT6 – 222

General Motors sold the least of the Cadillac XT6 in the third quarter of 2026, a vehicle discontinued in April 2025.

General Motors sold the least of the Cadillac XT6, a vehicle discontinued in April 2025. The 222 vehicles sold in the third quarter comprise some of the remaining inventory of the gas-powered, three-row luxury SUV, a 94.2% sales decline from 3,828 sold in third-quarter 2025.

Customers eager for another chance at the vehicle will see all-new versions of the XT6 in showrooms by 2028. GM confirmed earlier this year that the XT6 is among the new gas-powered vehicles the company plans to launch in the coming years, reversing earlier plans to produce only electric Cadillacs by 2030.

Also pulling fewer than 1,000 units sold include discontinued vehicles including the Chevrolet Low Cab Forward truck with 528 vehicles; the Cadillac CT4, with sales of 793; and the Chevrolet Silverado medium-duty with 485 pickups sold in the third quarter.

GMC Sierra and Hummer electric pickups – 1,423

GMC sold 1,423 pickup and SUV Hummer EVs in the third quarter, a 72.9% drop from 5,246 sold in third quarter 2025.

GMC sold 1,423 pickups and SUV Hummer EVs in the third quarter, a 72.9% drop from 5,246 sold in third quarter 2025.

GM sold 1,661 electric GMC Sierra trucks in the third quarter of 2026, slightly less than half of what it sold in that same timeframe last year.

The 3,374 pickups sold in third-quarter 2025, a record quarter for electric vehicles, is a stark contrast from this year, where only 4,705 GMC Sierras have been sold so far in 2026.
